Therapeutic Area
therapeutic areas, ta, disease areaDefinition
The broad field of medicine a brand or indication belongs to — immunology, oncology, neuroscience, eye care, virology — and the axis a pharmaceutical company organizes its commercial and medical teams along
Usually abbreviated TA in conversation, and the level at which budget, leadership and agency relationships are set. For anyone building the sites, the TA is the practical boundary of reuse: brands within one therapeutic area share an audience, a competitive set, and often a design language, so a pattern proven in one immunology brand is an easy sell to the next and a hard sell across to oncology.
The bucket above the brand. Immunology is a therapeutic area; Skyrizi is a brand in it; plaque psoriasis is one of its indications.
Avoid: assuming the hierarchy is clean. A molecule can cross therapeutic areas, teams reorganize, and the org chart is often a better predictor of where a site's requirements will come from than the biology is.
