Story

Also known as: user story

Definition

A backlog item written from the user's side — who wants what, and why — small enough to finish in a sprint and to say whether it is done

The classic form is "As a ⟨role⟩, I want ⟨capability⟩ so that ⟨outcome⟩", with acceptance criteria underneath. The form matters less than the two properties: it names a person, and it can be checked.

Tech

A story that cannot be finished in a sprint is an epic wearing a story's clothes. Split it by outcome, not by layer — "the reader can search" and "the reader can filter", not "backend" and "frontend".
