The discipline of making a thing usable by people with disabilities — through assistive technology, keyboard, contrast, structure, and language — as a property of the thing, not an accommodation added to it
WCAG is the standard; semantic HTML is most of the work. The rulings in this repository put semantics before visuals (an accessibility fix does not wait for a design gate) because the fix is usually the correct HTML and the visual was the workaround.
A measured gate: the checks a production page must pass — contrast ratios, landmarks, labels, focus order — as part of what it means to match the authored standard
One of the things the gate measures alongside tokens and anatomy. A page can match every color and still fail here; a finding of this kind names the WCAG criterion.
Works for everyone, by construction. The word covers a discipline and a measurement; the discipline is why the site is built the way it is, and the measurement is why a production page can be told it is not.
