Unordered list

Also known as:
, ul, bullet list, bulleted list
TechHTMLCSS

Definition

The HTML element for a list whose order does not matter —
with
children — announced by a screen reader as a list with its count, styled with bullets by default and with nothing at all when a nav or a card row needs the semantics without the marks

Most navigation is one: a
wrapping a
of links tells assistive technology how many items there are and where the list ends, which a row of s in a
does not. The pattern this site uses everywhere — list-none on the
, layout on the
s — keeps the semantics and drops the bullets; Safari once dropped the semantics too when list-style: none was set, which is why role=“list” sometimes appears beside it. The choice between this and
is one question: would reordering the items change the meaning?

Tech

A group of things that are alike, in no particular order. If the order carries meaning, it is the other list; if the items are not alike, it is not a list.
