Definitions

Frozen markup captured from a real AEM realization, kept as evidence — a control that generated CSS is checked against

Never edited to look better and never a source of truth. It exists so that what the design system generates can be compared with something real.

CWDS

A frozen capture of a public production page, with provenance — the subject under measurement

The thing a gate reads. Nothing is generated from one; a ruleset is never derived from one, because checking production against a standard extracted from production is a tautology that always passes.

Brand Gate

The one word in this estate with two deliberate, documented, opposite roles. In the design system a specimen is the control: a known-good rendering to check against. In the gate a specimen is the subject: production as it actually is, to be measured. Each repository ruled its meaning in an ADR, and the glossary records the split rather than picking a side.

Avoid: the word altogether in a rebuild — a rebuilt page served from localhost is not public, not production, and not a control. Say capture or rebuild.
