Stripe's reference pages set the pattern most API documentation still copies: a runnable example in your language on every page, keys filled in for you when signed in, and errors documented as carefully as successes. That is a DX argument made in public, and it worked.
The trade against Paddle is who owes the tax. Stripe is the payment processor and you remain the seller of record, which means sales tax and VAT are yours to get right.
