slc, simple lovable complete, s.l.c.ProductPractices
Definition
An alternative to the minimum viable product: the first release should be simple (small in scope), lovable (people want to use it) and complete (it does its one job fully, rather than being a partial version of something bigger)
Jason Cohen proposed it in 2019 in "Your customers hate MVPs. Make a SLC instead." His argument is that an MVP is built for the team's learning, while customers experience it as a broken product. An SLC is small but finished, so it earns use and word of mouth while the team learns. The trade is scope, not quality.
The counterpoint to the minimum viable product. The slc-product-planner skill scopes a release this way. Think of a skateboard shipped as a finished skateboard, not a car shipped without wheels.
