CMS's public lookup of every NPI — name, taxonomy (specialty), practice address, phone — searchable on the web and through a free JSON API with no key
The dataset behind a find-a-provider feature: search by name, specialty or location, get back providers with their taxonomy codes and addresses. Public and free, so the interesting engineering is in the geocoding, ranking and caching around it, not in access to it.
The one healthcare dataset anyone can call. Everything a provider directory needs to start is there; what it lacks — accepting new patients, insurance, hours — is what a product adds on top.
