Definition

Document Object Model — the live tree of objects a browser builds from a page's HTML, which scripts read and change and which the browser renders; the page as it is now, not as it was sent

A WHATWG living standard. Everything a framework does ends here: Vue's virtual DOM is a plan for changing the real one, and a component that 'renders' has produced DOM nodes. The accessibility tree is derived from it, which is why an element added by script with no semantics is as invisible to a screen reader as one written that way in the source.

Tech

The HTML is the recipe; the DOM is the dish. View-source shows the first, the element inspector shows the second, and a bug that appears only in one of them is a bug in the script between.
